Personal Philosophy & Additional Insights

Jo grew up in Oklahoma in a family of educators and artists. An activist from an early age, they were often heard badgering peers and teachers over issues that they were passionate about such as the environment, arts education, and gay rights. This passion followed them into adulthood and led them to become a professional educator and counselor.

As a child who was often silenced for their beliefs, identities, and questioning of authority, Jo holds a deep respect for their client’s voices and wants them to feel like the main character in their own lives. Like ripples on water, Jo believes that a client’s individual understanding of self can go on to affect sustainable change throughout their relationships and community.

In the counseling space, Jo incorporates existential philosophy with feminist theory to examine the whole self through the systems we operate within. Jo maintains a balance of psycho-education and person-centered therapy with the knowledge that counseling work might look different depending on client goals and needs. No matter the client, Jo strives to create a safe and trusting environment that can enable lasting change.

How We Work

We are passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community because it is OUR community – no one should have to teach their therapist about their preferred pronouns or face invasive questions about who and how they love.

At iAmClinic it is our mission to be experts in the field. It is our hope that you feel seen, affirmed and supported in your identities, so that together with your iAmClinic therapist, you are able to make the changes in your life that you are seeking.
